Scott Simon of npr Book signing and Lecture, Benefit for Journeys

National Public Radio’s Scott Simon will be in Portland October 4, 2010 for a presentation and reading from his upcoming book Baby We Were Meant for Each Other. Mr. Simon will appear at the Newmark Theater in Portland’s Center for the Performing Arts. The event features a lecture and book signing and is a benefit for Journeys of the Heart Adoption Services.

Scott Simon is a nationally recognized journalist, radio personality and author. Many people know him as host of “Weekend Edition” on National Public Radio. His Saturday morning program has a loyal following all across the country and his fans tune in every week for his intelligent and heartfelt approach to reporting. Mr. Simon has been a war correspondent, traveled the world and written several books.

While well-known as a radio host and author, Mr. Simon is also recognized by many as an adoptive parent. He and his wife, documentary filmmaker Caroline Richard, recently adopted two little girls from China. His book is set for publication August 24, 2010. In addition to chronicling his family’s adoption experience, Mr. Simon explores other perspectives through interviews with a wide variety of people who have had adoption touch their lives. For us Portlanders, one of the most notable people interviewed is Thomas Lauderdale, leader of the band Pink Martini.

The Newmark Theater holds 880 people. In past visits to Portland, Mr. Simon has sold out the Arlene Schnitzer Auditorium’s 2,500 seats so this special event promises a more intimate atmosphere.

The event is produced by Journeys of the Heart Adoption Services in Hillsboro Oregon. Proceeds support Journeys of the Heart’s programs bringing families seeking children and children seeking families together - locally, nationally and internationally. Journeys is a mid-sized agency bringing approximately 150-170 children home each year. Learn more about Journeys’ programs and relief efforts at: www.journeysoftheheart.net.
